Man arrested for allegedly killing parents, wife and daughter over wedding costs
The tragedy is believed to have been triggered by immense financial pressure surrounding the wedding of the suspect’s daughter, Jyoti, which was scheduled for February 2026.

NEW DELHI – Police have arrested Kamal Singh, the primary suspect in the killing of four family members at a double-storey house in Kotwali Nagar, Etah, last Monday.
The tragedy is believed to have been triggered by immense financial pressure surrounding the wedding of the suspect’s daughter, Jyoti, which was scheduled for February 2026.
The victims have been identified as Kamal’s father, Ganga Singh, 70; his mother, Shyama Devi, 65; his wife, Ratna Devi, 43; and his daughter, Jyoti, 23.
Police reports indicated that the family was under severe financial stress, with the estimated wedding cost of approximately 400,000 rupees (RM21,000) becoming a central point of conflict within the household.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a heated argument broke out between Kamal and his wife over these expenses.
In a fit of rage, Kamal allegedly assaulted Ratna Devi, striking her with a cement brick.
His daughter, Jyoti, was also killed at the scene when she attempted to intervene.
Kamal’s mother, Shyama Devi, sustained fatal injuries from a brick and later died in hospital, while his father, Ganga Singh, was found dead on the ground floor.
Following the assault, Kamal reportedly washed the blood from his hands and shoes before fleeing the property on a motorcycle.
The crime was discovered when Ganga Singh’s grandchild returned from school and found the victims' bodies scattered throughout the house.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras evidence, forensic examinations and a subsequent confession by the suspect indicate that he acted alone.
Authorities are currently investigating whether the suspect was suffering from psychological issues at the time of the killings.
“The case has been recorded at the Kotwali Nagar Police Station under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” a police spokesperson confirmed.
All victims have undergone post-mortem examinations and were buried under tight police security.
Kamal Singh remains in custody as investigations continue into the motive and the brutal nature of the crimes. — AGENCY
