Parts of a woman’s body, believed to have been dismembered, were discovered at a rubbish disposal site in Indah Permai here this morning.

KOTA KINABALU - The human body parts discovered this morning in the Indah Permai shoplot area, Menggatal, belong to the same person, who police say may have been killed elsewhere.

Acting Kota Kinabalu district police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said police received initial information about the incident at around 8am before dispatching a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to the scene.

"Preliminary checks found several human body parts in a rubbish bin and around the shoplot area. All the parts discovered are believed to belong to the same victim.

"The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed and efforts are ongoing to identify the individual and trace next of kin. The Sabah police contingent, the Forensic Unit of Queen Elizabeth I Hospital and the K9 Unit conducted detailed examinations at the scene to collect evidence and assist with the investigation,” he said in a statement.

According to Syed Lot, based on initial observations, police do not rule out the possibility that the victim was killed elsewhere before the body parts were dumped in the shoplot area.

He said the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death, the modus operandi of the perpetrators and the individuals involved.

"The victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, and a post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to assist the investigation by contacting investigating officer ASP Rahman at +60 12-310 6882 or the Kota Kinabalu IPD at 088-529222.

"The investigation will be conducted thoroughly and professionally to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he said. - BERNAMA
