Dashcam use still at advocacy stage, not mandatory yet - Loke
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said any new policy that mandates the installation of additional equipment, such as dashcams, must undergo a comprehensive assessment process, including aspects of effectiveness, feasibility and cost implications for the public.

SEREMBAN - The proposal for dashcam installation is still at the advocacy stage, and not yet made compulsory for all vehicle owners.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said any new policy that mandates the installation of additional equipment, such as dashcams, must undergo a comprehensive assessment process, including aspects of effectiveness, feasibility and cost implications for the public.
He said that more and more vehicle users are voluntarily installing dashcams for safety and personal protection, as well as serving as evidence in case of any untoward incidents.
"For now, the approach is advocacy. We advise and encourage the public to install dashcams for their own safety.
"When there is additional cost, some may not agree. So, various aspects need to be considered before any matter is made compulsory. We adopt a more prudent approach to the issue of making dashcam installation mandatory,” he told reporters here Thursday (Feb 12).
Loke said this after attending a hi-tea event with the Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) of the Seremban parliamentary constituency and the Chennah state constituency.
The media had previously reported that the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) is considering a proposal to mandate in-vehicle dashcams for all road users to improve traffic safety and enhance enforcement.
Meanwhile, during the hi-tea event, 44 JPKKs for the Seremban parliamentary constituency and the Chennah state constituency received Ramadan contributions worth RM4,000 each.
Loke hopes that assistance for the people can be implemented fairly, regardless of background or political leanings, to ensure the public's continued trust and support.
He said every elected representative and local leader must practice the principle of fairness in managing their respective areas, in addition to paying attention to the welfare of residents regardless of their political affiliation. - BERNAMA
