Muslims urged to rise and truly understand the Quran - Hussamuddin

SHAH ALAM – Muslims must rise and turn World #QuranHour into a major movement, not only at the national level but also globally, says Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.
The founder of Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas (WUIF) said the initiative was intended to create awareness on the importance of reading the Quran, engaging with it, understanding its message and practising its teachings in daily life.
He said this process was crucial in shaping both mindset and an operating system rooted in the holy book.
Hussamuddin said without such awareness, Muslims would continue to be divided, confused and easily manipulated by various parties.
"At the beginning, the commitment and support we received were extraordinary, which shows that we succeeded in mobilising the movement and I think nearly 70 countries were involved in the first year.
"We received support from the government at that time. Wisma Putra activated its global network to organise World #QuranHour simultaneously with us.
"However, the momentum seems to have slowed down and we hope all parties can come together to revive it," he said.

Hussamuddin added that starting this year, the movement could be reignited by running coordinated campaigns using a single, consistent narrative rather than fragmented messages.
"We do this for Allah and we must save our children and grandchildren. Change must begin with ourselves and we should use every strength we have to transform our surroundings.
"We must take responsibility to restore the strength and momentum of World #QuranHour and raise public awareness so that at the very least, people read the Quran for one hour a day. Together, let us pause and reconnect with the Quran.
"Previously, the whole world participated simultaneously, but now it seems far less. This is our responsibility," he said.
