SHAH ALAM – Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has confirmed receiving a show-cause letter from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) over claims that he had declared leaving the party.

The former economy minister said the letter was issued following his statement about his intention to contest in the 16th General Election (GE16) not under the PKR ticket.

“They claim I declared I am leaving the party when I said I would contest in GE16 but not on a PKR ticket.

“That plan would only take place once Parliament is dissolved and I am no longer bound by the Anti-Party Hopping Act. After I am no longer an MP, it is up to me what I choose to do,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook account on Thursday.

However, Rafizi said the law cannot be decided based on intention alone. He said a parliamentary seat can only be vacated if an elected representative officially and formally announces leaving a party or joining another party.

He also criticised PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, saying her actions were similar to what he described as “twists and turns” during the party elections, including changes to the voting system, the use of blockchain and the refusal to open ballot boxes for audit.

“Now the same tactic is being used to try to remove me from Parliament, even though I did not declare that I was leaving the party,” he said.

Rafizi said he would respond to the show-cause letter and explain his position to the party leadership.

In a related development, he compared the leadership style of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with that of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“One thing that differentiates Anwar from Muhyiddin is the courage to make decisions. If I were in Bersatu, I would have been sacked a long time ago.

“But Anwar, as I have said before in a podcast, prefers others to act on his behalf. I previously described it as a sense of entitlement he has. He feels that others should sacrifice for him because he is a prominent leader,” he said.

Rafizi also claimed that when he criticised the party leadership, many expected firm action to be taken, but that did not happen.

“But Anwar and PKR want me to solve that problem on his behalf, because if he sacks me, I would remain an MP.

“He wants me to declare that I am leaving and then the Speaker from PKR would declare that I am no longer an MP,” he added.
