Man missing for six days found drowned in Sultan Azlan Shah Dam

IPOH - A man who went missing after falling into the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam in Ulu Kinta near here six days ago was found drowned today.

The body of the 32-year-old victim was found floating approximately 300 meters from the spot where he was believed to have fallen.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said the department received a call regarding the discovery at 11.22am.

"A team from the Tambun Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location immediately after receiving the information to conduct the recovery operation. The victim's body was successfully brought to land and handed over to the police for further action," he said in a statement today.

Previously, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad had said that a man feared drowned, was suspected of being involved in cable theft activities with a friend, at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation at the dam.

According to him, the Tanjung Rambutan Police Station received information regarding a cable theft incident in the area at approximately 12.40am on the day of the incident.

The drowning victim is believed to have been involved in the theft with another man who also nearly drowned but was rescued after being trapped on the dam's embankment; he has since been detained for further investigation. - BERNAMA
