Widow detained for suspected khalwat with two men in JB
When questioned by enforcement officers, the woman said she was unwell and needed to rest at the man’s house.

JOHOR BAHRU - Religious enforcement officers in Johor Bahru detained a widow and two men in their 30s after they were suspected of khalwat (close proximity) during a raid at noon at a double-storey terrace house in Bandar Dato’ Onn on Tuesday.
The Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) said the operation was launched following information from the public.
"Upon arriving at the location, enforcement officers knocked on the door before it was opened five minutes later by a man. The officers introduced themselves and entered the house while requesting the man’s cooperation," the department said in a statement.
An inspection found no one on the ground floor, but three closed rooms upstairs. The man who answered the door claimed he occupied the first room, where another man was found asleep.
"Enforcement officers then knocked on the second room and found that it was occupied by three individuals. Officers found a man wearing only shorts and shirtless, sleeping on a single mattress on the left.
"About two metres to the right, two individuals were sleeping on a double mattress. The man then awoke upon the presence of enforcement officers. He was wearing trousers but was shirtless.
"Beside him was someone under a blanket covering the face and entire body," the department said.
Checks revealed that the person under the blanket was a woman who was wearing trousers and a T-shirt.
Investigations showed that the individuals were not married to one another and shared no mahram relationship.
"The first and second men, both in their 30s, are close friends and work at the same place. Both are single, while the woman, also in her 30s, is a widow. All of them work in Johor Bahru.
"The condition of the bed and sheets was untidy. When questioned by enforcement officers, the woman said she was unwell and needed to rest at the man’s house.
"Enforcement officers are accustomed to encountering various behaviours and excuses created when individuals are caught for khalwat," it said.
The pair were detained under Section 27 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (State of Johor) 1997 for being in seclusion in a room in a manner that aroused suspicion.
