Iran offers Hormuz passage to countries expelling US, Israeli envoys
Such countries would have the “full right and freedom” to transit the Strait of Hormuz
Iran has said countries that expel Israeli and United States ambassadors will be allowed to pass freely through the Strait of Hormuz, according to CNN.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that any Arab or European country that cuts diplomatic ties with both Israel and the US will be granted unrestricted passage through the strategic waterway starting Tuesday, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported.
The IRGC said such countries would have the “full right and freedom” to transit the Strait of Hormuz if they sever diplomatic ties with the two countries.
The Strait of Hormuz — a narrow, 21-mile-wide waterway — is one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, with nearly one-fifth of global oil supplies passing through it.
The ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran has pushed oil prices higher, largely due to fears of a potential shutdown of the strait and disruptions to oil production across the Middle East, CNN reported.
