SHAH ALAM - Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim said he will raise the issue of rising racial tensions at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Sim said it was time for all forms of violence and religious and racial provocation to be completely stopped.

The Bukit Mertajam MP also urged the police to take swift and firm action against those responsible, regardless of their background.

"They must face the harshest legal action, whether those who stepped on the Quran, those who stepped on Hindu religious symbols, those who provoked calls to demolish temples, those involved in vandalism, or those who burned vehicles.

"Malaysians must stand united on this issue and say no to agents of provocation and extremism," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Sim said Malaysians should not see each other as enemies, regardless of race or religion.

"At a time when the world is facing turmoil, people in this country must unite to strengthen Malaysian businesses and build the economy for the well-being of all.

"Everyone has a responsibility to lower racial tensions in our multiracial society. Stop spreading and sharing hatred. Stop fuelling division," he added.

In the latest incident, three cars belonging to an individual known as Cikgu Chandra were set on fire, allegedly by a group of unidentified men.

According to a post by independent preacher Firdaus Wong on the Threads platform, the incident occurred at about 3am on Tuesday.

Wong claimed that the three cars were torched after several masked men armed with machetes had earlier attempted to attack Cikgu Chandra the previous evening.

He also alleged that Cikgu Chandra’s house in Puchong was attacked by a group of men who smashed the windows of vehicles and the house.

The attack was understood to have taken place just days after another independent preacher, Zamri Vinoth, was assaulted by a group of men while inside his car.

Wong also called for immediate action to be taken against those responsible for the crimes.
