Mother arrested for killing disabled daughter over fears for her future
“I was worried about what would happen to Kana if I died first."

MOBARA – A woman has been arrested in Mobara City, Chiba, on suspicion of killing her 29-year-old daughter, who had been bedridden due to a physical disability since birth.
According to police, Chieko Saito, 58, allegedly killed her daughter, Kana, who was a person with disabilities, by pressing the victim’s head into a container filled with water in the early hours of March 8, NTV reported.
A neighbour said they received an emergency call to 110 at about 6.12am from Saito, who said something terrible had happened and asked for help.
When the neighbour arrived at the house, they found Saito sitting in the corner of a room, drenched, crying and trembling while saying, “Kana has died and I did it.”
After discovering Kana’s body, the neighbour immediately contacted the police.
Saito told authorities that she had been pessimistic about her daughter’s future as Kana had been seriously ill since birth, unable to move freely and unable to speak.
“I was worried about what would happen to Kana if I died first. I did not intend to leave her to die alone.
“I also intended to end my own life, but I could not bring myself to do it,” she said.
Police are currently investigating the case and further legal action will be taken against Saito.
