SHAH ALAM - A suspect linked to a viral sexual harassment incident on a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train has been detained, following swift action by auxiliary police, according to Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail).
In a statement issued on today, Rapid Rail confirmed that the individual believed to be involved in the incident was successfully apprehended by the Prasarana Auxiliary Police.
“The suspect, a 19-year-old foreigner was arrested during an operation carried out to track him down,” the company said.
The arrest was made less than 24 hours after a witness lodged a report on April 8, alleging that a man had harassed a female passenger on the Kelana Jaya Line.
The company said that preliminary investigations also indicate that the suspect may be linked to another sexual harassment incident at Kuchai Station on the Putrajaya Line.
Rapid Rail said the suspect was handed over to the police and taken to the Sri Petaling police station for further investigation.
The operator emphasised that the quick response reflects the readiness and efficiency of its auxiliary police personnel in addressing safety concerns on public transport.
As the operator of Rapid KL rail services, Rapid Rail also urged passengers to remain vigilant and report any incidents.
“Rapid Rail urges all passengers to immediately report any incidents or suspicious behaviour to station staff or Prasarana Auxiliary Police personnel on duty, so that prompt and appropriate action can be taken,” the company said.
The incident drew widespread attention after a TikTok video went viral, showing a woman confronting a man inside a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train following an alleged sexual harassment incident.
