PUTRAJAYA – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former education centre director at a public university, who holds the title “Datuk”, on suspicion of abusing his position by using about RM1 million for personal purposes.

The man, in his 60s, has been remanded for five days until April 19 following an application by MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

According to a source, the suspect was arrested at about 8pm on Tuesday while giving his statement at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to have committed the offence between 2023 and 2025 while serving as the director of the institution.

“He is also believed to have had interests in a company directly linked to the education centre and used the funds for personal gain,” the source said.

The source added that MACC has frozen four bank accounts — one company account and three personal accounts — involving a total of about RM600,000.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy director of investigations Datuk Yuhafiz Mohd Salleh confirmed the arrest, saying the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

“The investigation focuses on both criminal elements and governance issues,” he said.
