‘I want to know the real cause of my husband’s death’

KUANTAN – “Yes, death is in God’s hands, but I want to know how my husband died and what really happened.”
Those were the words of Nurkhaeryna Dhania Azreen Khairil Azri, 28, the widow of floating storage and offloading (FSO) Sepat tragedy victim Muhammad Faezuan Hakim Mohammad Bustamam, 28, who is still waiting for the investigation results to determine the actual cause of the incident that claimed her husband’s life.
She said that until now, the family has yet to receive a full report on the incident and has only been informed of updates by the company where her late husband worked.
“So far, everything is still under investigation. We only know what happened, but the actual cause is still unknown.
“I really want to know the outcome of the investigation, and I want justice for my husband,” she said when met by reporters at her family home in Bukit Setongkol on Thursday.

Earlier, Nurkhaeryna and her family received a visit from Pahang Welfare, Women and Family Development state executive councillor Datuk Sabariah Saidan through the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) Caring Visit programme.
During the visit, Sabariah presented contributions from the Pahang government and Perkeso to Nurkhaeryna. Also present were Perkeso Pahang director Hisham Abdul Rahman and Pahang Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Khairul Amri Ahmad.
Faezuan was among three victims who died when the lifeboat they were on fell into the sea while carrying out maintenance work at the FSO Sepat on May 24.
Sharing further, Nurkhaeryna said the loss has also affected their eldest child, Nur Hawa Dharwisya Muhammad Faezuan Hakim, who is now one year and seven months old.
She said their daughter is still looking for her father and often calls out to him when seeing his photos.
“She was very close to her father. In the early days after the incident, she would look out the window, waiting for him to come home.
“Even now, whenever she sees his picture, she will call out ‘babah’,” she said.
She said that the late Faezuan had joined a new company earlier this year and had departed offshore on May 17 for his first assignment with the employer.
“Before this, we were rarely apart. That’s why he was very close to our child,” she added.
Meanwhile, Nurkhaeryna, who is currently pregnant with their second child and expected to give birth to a baby girl on July 30, admitted she is still adjusting to life without her husband.
She shared that they had planned to buy baby necessities after his return from work.
“We already have many items since our first child is also a girl, but there are still a few things we haven’t bought.
“We planned to get them after he returned, but his passing was truly unexpected,” she said.

Commenting on the Perkeso benefits received, Nurkhaeryna expressed gratitude, saying the financial aid helps ease her burden in caring for her young daughter.
She said she is currently a housewife and relies on available assistance as she focuses on her pregnancy and childcare.
“Alhamdulillah, many have come forward to help and show concern for us,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sabariah said Perkeso is providing monthly assistance to the families of victims of the FSO Sepat tragedy.
“Alhamdulillah, the late Faezuan’s employer made Perkeso contributions, making the family eligible for benefits.
“The monthly assistance of over RM3,000 will be provided for a set period,” she said.
She added that the JKM is also extending support to the family.
“We are also providing counselling services through trained officers to support the family emotionally and psychologically,” she explained.
