KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will obtain a full report on the alleged personal data leak involving prominent influencer Khairul Aming.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said he had been informed that the telecommunications company linked to the incident was contacting the entrepreneur to obtain further details.

“This is a worrying matter because the complaint made by Khairul Aming on Threads suggests that an individual who should not have access to personal information and a telecommunications company’s system may have obtained such data.

“I have asked MCMC to obtain a full report and if there are others who have experienced similar incidents, please lodge reports so that we have records, information and evidence for further action,” he said during a press conference after officiating the International Regulators Conference (IRC) 2026 here on Tuesday.

Previously, Khairul Aming questioned on Threads how details related to his personal phone bill could have been accessed by another party and publicly disclosed on social media.

The influencer had also sought clarification from the telecommunications company over the alleged leak of his personal billing information, which was linked to a social media user.

The matter arose after a Threads user claimed to have knowledge of Khairul Aming’s phone bill details, including alleging that he had an outstanding payment of RM498 and linking it to several additional services.

Meanwhile, Fahmi stressed that the dissemination of information that could identify an individual, or personally identifiable information, was an offence under the Personal Data Protection Act.

He said further action could be taken against any party found to have deliberately shared such information.

“I also urge victims to lodge police reports and reports to MCMC so that investigations can be carried out more effectively,” he said.
