UNOFFICIAL: BN-PN secures simple majority, ends PH rule in Negeri Sembilan
Unofficial results showed the BN-PN alliance winning at least 19 of the state's 36 seats, crossing the threshold required to form the next state government.

SEREMBAN — The Barisan Nasional (BN)-Perikatan Nasional (PN) electoral pact secured a simple majority in the Negeri Sembilan state election tonight, ending Pakatan Harapan's (PH) administration and paving the way for the formation of a new state government.
Unofficial results showed the BN-PN alliance winning at least 19 of the state's 36 seats, crossing the threshold required to form the next state government.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has unofficially claimed victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election, saying that the BN-PN alliance has secured enough seats to form the state government.
He claimed that the BN-PN coalition had secured a two-thirds majority, leading in 25 of the 36 state constituencies.
The outcome marks a major political shift in Negeri Sembilan, where PH has governed since 2018.
Political observers said the BN-PN pact appeared to have benefited from straight fights in several constituencies, potentially reducing vote-splitting that had previously worked in PH's favour.
PH contested all 36 seats in the election. Under a seat-sharing arrangement, BN contested 25 seats through Umno (16), MCA (7) and MIC (2), while PN fielded 11 candidates through Pas (5), Wawasan Negara (4), Gerakan (1) and MIPP (1). Bersatu contested 24 seats, while Berjasa, Asli and Parti Sosialis Malaysia contested one seat each.
The campaign focused heavily on issues including the cost of living, employment opportunities, infrastructure development and the performance of the incumbent state administration.
Attention will now turn to the selection of the next Menteri Besar, with coalition leaders expected to hold discussions before submitting their choice to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
As of 4pm, Election Commission (EC) reported 65.38 per cent, or 562,133 of the 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, had cast their ballots.
Final results are expected to be announced later tonight by EC.
