KUALA LUMPUR – The legal team representing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is awaiting further instructions before commenting on the conditional pardon granted to him by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, today.

His lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee said the legal team had decided against making an early statement to avoid providing inaccurate information.

“I am waiting for instructions regarding this development.

“I do not want to provide any incorrect information,” he said when contacted on Friday.

Farhan said Messrs Shafee & Co would issue a statement if there were any developments requiring a response from the firm.

The 72-year-old former Pekan MP was reported to have received a conditional pardon from Sultan Ibrahim, with the remainder of his prison sentence to be served under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya on Friday.

According to the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, the conditional pardon was subject to Najib paying a RM50 million fine.
