BEIT HANINA, Palestinian Territories – The United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday it would cut monthly assistance to 500,000 people in Gaza due to a funding shortfall, warning that humanitarian needs remained acute.

“As of this month, we’re now cutting half a million people from the number of people that we’re assisting,” WFP country director Shaun Hughes told AFP.

The cuts will reduce the number of Palestinians receiving WFP assistance, either in food or cash, to 1.1 million — still roughly half of Gaza’s war-battered population. –AFP
