KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid its current security challenges and affirmed its readiness to assist within its capabilities.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he conveyed the message during a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, yesterday.

Mohamed Khaled said he received the call while attending the 20th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Cebu, the Philippines, following an earlier telephone conversation between the two ministers last month.

"Malaysia stands in solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid its current security challenges and remains ready to assist within our capabilities. May Saudi Arabia and its people remain safe and secure, insya-Allah,” he posted on his official X account.

Meanwhile, Prince Khalid said in a separate post on X that the two ministers reviewed bilateral defence relations and discussed regional developments during the conversation.

He said they also condemned attacks by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and the holy sites.

King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was previously targeted in attacks that caused multiple deaths and injuries, prompting Saudi authorities to temporarily suspend airport operations. The airport partially reopened on Sunday. - BERNAMA
