KUANTAN - The public is urged to dispose of electronic waste (e-waste) and used cooking oil through designated collection channels to prevent environmental pollution.

Pahang Environment Department (DOE) director Zakaria Ahmad @ Mohd said dumping such waste with household rubbish or into drains could harm the environment.

He said some e-waste components contained hazardous materials that could cause pollution if not handled properly.

"The public should ensure such waste is channelled to the proper collection facilities," he told Bernama at the Environment Day celebration carnival at Taman Pertanian Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah here today.

On used cooking oil, Zakaria said it could be processed or reused through approved methods when collected through proper channels.

He said the two waste management initiatives were among the issues highlighted at the two-day carnival, themed "The Environment: A Shared Responsibility", to promote environmental awareness and conservation.

The carnival, which began today, features environmental exhibitions, colouring competitions and interactive activities for visitors of all ages. It is expected to attract 1,000 visitors. - BERNAMA
