HANG TUAH JAYA - Chants of "Allahuakbar" and "hidup rakyat" (long live the people) rang out between supporters of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), who were stationed next to each other at the nomination centre for the Bukit Katil state constituency here on Saturday.

The supporters of both coalitions were separated only by a designated space, creating a lively atmosphere at the nomination centre and attracting the attention of members of the public who had gathered to witness the process.

Attention was also focused on incumbent assemblyman Datuk Seri Adly Zahari, 55, who has held the seat since 2018 and arrived to submit his nomination papers as the PH candidate.

Adly, who is also Deputy Defence Minister, was accompanied by Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and a group of supporters at the Dewan Tun Ali, Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB).

Meanwhile, Pas candidate Muhammad Ridzuan Mohd Sarif, 42, representing PN, also arrived with his entourage, accompanied by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Ridzuan is an Environmental Health Officer and treasurer of the Pas Youth Council’s Election Department.

Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) candidate Dr Aliza Che Amran, 46, arrived with a smaller entourage and was greeted enthusiastically with a kompang performance.

Aliza is a former lecturer at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

The contest for the seat also features independent candidate Abu Bakar Sabudin, 65, who is a contractor.

A total of 35,359 registered voters in the Bukit Katil state constituency will determine their representative in this election.
