PH’s Rahayu puts education, women’s development at forefront of Merlimau campaign
She said focus was in line with PH’s Melaka Rumah Kita aspirations, which seek to expand opportunities and support for young people and women.

JASIN - Strengthening education opportunities, advancing women’s development and addressing local infrastructure concerns will be among Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Rahayu Hamzah’s priorities if she is elected as the Merlimau state assemblyman in the Melaka state election.
Rahayu, who is also Melaka Amanah Women’s chief said improving access to opportunities for young people was particularly important to help them build a better future.
She said the focus was in line with PH’s Melaka Rumah Kita aspirations, which seek to expand opportunities and support for young people and women.
Rather than making promises that might not be fulfilled, Rahayu said she wanted to prioritise practical measures, including resolving outstanding issues and completing delayed work.
“Education is the most important. As for all the work and maintenance that we can complete, we cannot just talk or promise the moon and the stars.
“Whatever we can do, we will try to resolve matters that are still pending,” she said.

On her efforts to reach voters, Rahayu expressed confidence that her longstanding involvement in the Merlimau community, particularly among mothers and women, would help residents become familiar with her work.
She also hoped that word-of-mouth recommendations from those who knew her would help secure public acceptance.
“I am confident that the mothers and women who know me in the Merlimau state constituency will, InsyaAllah, share with the community what I have done all this time.
“I hope to be accepted in N27 Merlimau and I am ready if given the opportunity to take up the challenge, fulfil my responsibilities and carry out the trust placed in me as a people's representative,” she added.
Beyond education and women’s development, Rahayu acknowledged that infrastructure problems and flooding were among the concerns raised by residents and required attention.
She said potential solutions should be examined, including how government allocations could be utilised to address the problems in Merlimau.
She added that tackling issues affecting residents’ everyday lives would also form part of her campaign priorities.
Rahayu will face Merlimau incumbent and Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh in the 16th Melaka state election.
Dr Akmal won the seat in the 2021 state election with 5,633 votes and a majority of 3,248 in a three-cornered contest against candidates from PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The Election Commission has set Oct 31 for nomination day and Nov 14 for polling day.
