KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to pay the RM50 million fine at the High Court here on Wednesday, paving the way for the former Prime Minister to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

On Oct 14, Najib confirmed that he had received the court order document concerning the mechanism for his house arrest, but was prohibited from disclosing its contents to the public.

His lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, said this after the High Court dismissed Najib's application to stay the execution of his 15-year jail sentence and RM11.4 billion fine in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds misappropriation case.

Shafee also confirmed that the house arrest location stated in the document was Najib's residence at No. 11, Langgak Duta.

Last October, Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) Director-General Datuk Zamri Misman said the Prisons Department of Malaysia had provided further clarification to Najib on the house arrest mechanism.

On Sept 19, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the Prisons Department of Malaysia was expected to prepare standard operating procedures (SOP) for the implementation of house arrest for the former Pekan MP.

Najib, who has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, for misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, filed a petition for a royal pardon on Sept 2, 2022.

On July 28, 2020, the High Court here sentenced Najib to 12 years in prison and a RM210 million fine after finding him guilty of three counts each of criminal breach of trust and money laundering, as well as one count of abuse of power.
