SHAH ALAM – The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has urged residents within its administrative areas to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions amid unpredictable weather conditions during the Northeast Monsoon.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia), the 2026/2027 Northeast Monsoon began on Oct 27 and is expected to continue until March 2027.
Between November 2026 and January 2027, the country is expected to experience three to five episodes of continuous heavy rain, potentially increasing the risk of flooding in several areas.
MBSA advised residents to prepare emergency kits containing important documents, medication, torches, food supplies and drinking water.
They were also advised to move their vehicles to higher ground if water levels begin to rise and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
The council stressed that families should pay particular attention to vulnerable members, including children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD), and ensure they are ready to evacuate if instructed by the authorities.
Residents were also encouraged to monitor weather updates and follow official announcements and instructions from the relevant agencies.
MBSA said community cooperation was essential to ensure safety measures and evacuation procedures could be carried out smoothly during emergencies.
For emergencies or disaster-related assistance, residents can contact the MBSA Disaster Operations Room (Pantas) at 03-5510 5811 to seek help or report incidents.
The council said it would continue monitoring weather conditions and developments within its jurisdiction while coordinating with relevant agencies to prepare for potential disasters and safeguard residents' well-being.
