SHAH ALAM - The Selangor state government has mobilised 7,677 personnel from various state agencies to prepare for disasters during the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), which is expected to continue until March 2027.

State Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the mobilisation involved the State Disaster Management Unit (UPBN), local authorities, district offices and relevant agencies to coordinate operations and monitor high-risk areas.

In a statement today, she said the operation was supported by 708 land vehicles, 247 water transport assets and various rescue equipment, including 5,739 tents, 1,950 life jackets, 141 water pumps and 20 drones.

According to the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS), the state is expected to receive 2,232 millimetres of rainfall this year, with 1,460 mm, or 65 per cent, recorded as at Nov 1. Rainfall of 268 mm and 230 mm is forecast for November and December respectively.

Jamaliah said JPS was monitoring flood risks through 221 rainfall telemetry stations, 124 water-level monitoring stations, 140 warning sirens and 72 IP cameras.

Based on 2025 data, JPS had identified 56 flood hotspots and 232 flood-prone areas, with Klang recording the highest number of hotspots at 13, followed by Petaling (11), Gombak (10) and Hulu Langat (nine).

She also cautioned residents in coastal and river estuary areas of Klang, Sepang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor about the risk of high tides.

Meanwhile, 1,161 temporary relief centres (PPS) had been identified statewide, including 696 schools under the Education Ministry, 242 public halls and 135 community halls.

Jamaliah said agencies had been instructed to ensure the centres were safe, equipped with basic facilities and sufficient food supplies, while giving due attention to vulnerable groups.

She advised residents to monitor weather alerts through the JPS Public InfoBanjir portal and the Malaysian Meteorological Department's (MET Malaysia) myCuaca 3.0 application, and comply with evacuation orders. - BERNAMA
