PARIS - An airliner heading from Dublin to Rome was on Thursday rerouted to France, where it was escorted by military aircraft after a suspected bomb threat, French authorities said.

The incident came after some 10 European flights were targeted by bomb threats on Tuesday, forcing the brief closure of a Warsaw airport and the scrambling of air force planes in Rome, according to authorities.

According to the Flight Radar tracking website, the diverted plane appeared to belong to the Aer Lingus fleet.

France's air force said it had dispatched planes "as soon as the threat was reported".

"The aircraft has been diverted and is being escorted to the Evreux airfield" west of Paris, it added. - AFP

This handout photo released by NASA on July 31, 2004, shows the Swift spacecraft being unwrapped in Hangar AE at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. NASA on Tuesday is set to launch a daring robotic rescue mission, a longshot bid to prevent one of its aging telescopes from vanishing into dust. If successful, the effort could pave the way for giving other satellites a second life. The operation is set to last several months, kicking off with the launch of a robot designed to rescue the Swift space telescope that's currently falling towards Earth. Without intervention, it is expected it will soon burn up in the atmosphere. (Photo by Handout / NASA / AFP)
