Police are searching for a 22-year-old man suspected of violently assaulting his wife in Kota Shahbandar early Sunday, an incident captured on CCTV and widely shared on social media.

In the footage, a reflection of firelight can be seen, believed to have been sprayed towards the victim, who was lying down with his hands appearing to be tied.

It was reported that lawyer Latheefa Koya, during a press conference, said the victim, in his 20s, alleged that he was beaten and burnt with fire by police while in custody to force him to confess to a crime which he denied committing.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had previous records under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, though his urine test came back negative for drugs. Viral photo.

Lawyer Lingswaran Singh, representing the 19-year-old accused, told Ampang Sessions Court Judge Norshila Kamarudin that the application to refer his client for psychiatric assessment was made under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that a 19-year-old man had been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

A viral social media video showed several plainclothes police officers raiding a residence. The footage also allegedly captured them breaking the CCTV camera upon realising they were being recorded and engaging in extortion.
