A woman and her younger brother escaped the death penalty after the Court of Appeal commuted the death sentence imposed on them to 33 years’ prison each for the murder of the woman’s blind husband about four years ago.

A couple escaped the gallows today after the Court of Appeal substituted their murder charge with committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder for the death of their eight-year-old son.
