Amanda Zurawski nearly died while waiting for an abortion she didn't want, but desperately needed, and was denied by doctors in Texas. In June 2022, as the US Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion, Zurawski celebrated her long-awaited pregnancy after 18 months of fertility treatment. But after only 18 weeks of pregnancy, she learned that a miscarriage was "inevitable", as the fetus was not viable. The only solution to avoid complications: to terminate the pregnancy. But Texas, like many states, has banned abortions with rare exceptions since the Supreme Court's ruling. After six weeks, abortion is not allowed unless the mother's life is in danger.
