SHAH ALAM - Former deputy president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has the right and it is appropriate for him to forge cooperation under the framework of Rumah Besar Bangsa as advocated by leaders of Pas and Umno.
Former Bersatu head of the Lembah Pantai division Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said such cooperation was not about party interests but about ensuring the continuity of the nation’s political stability, economic strength, peace and national unity.
"Any party that does not want to see Malays united under this initiative for the sake of national stability is rejecting the interests of their own community.
"Such groups should not be given political support by the people, especially Malays who seek firm leadership, strong unity and a stable future for the country," he said in a post on Monday.
Previously, media reports stated that Umno had formed a committee known as the Rumah Bangsa Unity Committee to review the possible return of former party members.
Its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said rejoining could take place either individually or en bloc.
On Saturday, Hamzah hinted at the possibility of establishing a "new house" in the future.
The Larut MP said the term new house does not necessarily refer to forming a new party, but could mean joining an existing one, whether by taking over Berjasa, returning to Umno or joining Pas.
Meanwhile, Muqharabbin said the initiative reflected an urgent need to unite Malays in Malaysia to ensure continued national stability.
He said history clearly showed that a nation’s strength begins with the unity of its people.
"When a community is divided, the country becomes weak politically, economically and in terms of security. A truly responsible leader must prioritise the interests of the people and unity of the nation above narrow political interests.
"Any party that rejects this unification effort should be seen as not serious about fighting for the country’s future and may risk weakening the political strength of the Malay community," he said.
