Relations between the two PN component parties have become increasingly strained after Abdul Hadi stated that Pas would reassess its cooperation with Bersatu.

SHAH ALAM — Pas is expected to determine the future direction of its political relationship with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) during a Central Committee meeting scheduled for Monday night.

Its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang briefly confirmed the matter to reporters when asked about when the party leadership would convene to discuss the increasingly talked-about relationship between Pas and Bersatu.

Relations between the two Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties have become increasingly strained after Abdul Hadi stated that Pas would reassess its cooperation with Bersatu.

The move follows several actions by the party led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, which Pas claims are not in line with the spirit of coalition solidarity. Among the issues raised was Bersatu’s rejection of efforts to strengthen PN by restricting membership for Malay-Muslim parties as well as non-extremist non-Muslim parties, a stance that Pas reportedly found unsatisfactory.

Abdul Hadi also highlighted several other concerns, including the change of the Perlis Menteri Besar, the political crisis in Negeri Sembilan and allegations regarding weaknesses in Bersatu’s election machinery, all of which were cited as reasons for Pas to review its relationship with the party.

In a related development, when asked about proposals to revive Muafakat Nasional (MN) 2.0, Abdul Hadi said the matter remains under discussion.
