“Not trying my luck, I want to win” - Independent candidate for Puteri Wangsa

Independent candidate Wang Wee Szong says his bid for the Puteri Wangsa seat in the 16th Johor state election is a serious attempt to win and represent the people, driven by his decision to speak up on public issues.

He decided to contest after feeling he could no longer remain silent on various issues affecting the public.

JOHOR BAHRU – Independent candidate for the Puteri Wangsa state seat, Wang Wee Szong, has stressed that his participation in the 16th Johor state election is not merely to “try his luck”, but a serious bid to win and bring the voice of the people to the state assembly.

The 49-year-old businessman said he decided to contest after feeling he could no longer remain silent on various issues affecting the public.

“I came out because I want to bring the voice of the people. I want to bring a different voice, the right voice, the true voice.

“I am not contesting just to try my luck, I want to win. If I am not confident, how can I contest?” he said when met after the nomination process on Saturday.

The Puteri Wangsa native, who is married and has one child, said he believes voters are looking for an alternative to existing political parties.

He said he chose the key symbol for his campaign as it represents the “key to the people’s rights”.

“I chose the key because it is the key to the people’s rights. We want a voice that truly comes from the people.

“We are already tired of hearing various stories from other parties. Today I am contesting here and I ask all voters to listen carefully and support the independent candidate,” he said.

Wang will face four other contenders in the seat, namely former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik representing Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN) newcomer Teow Chia Ling, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) candidate Rashifa Aljunied, who is the chief of the Puteri Wangsa constituency service centre and Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) candidate Nicholas Paul Vincent.

The Election Commission has set July 11 as polling day for the Johor state election, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
