Luxury brands celebrate Chinese New Year with Tiger-Inspired collections

It’s the year of the majestic tigers and luxury fashion houses are welcoming the occasion with collections inspired by the fearless creatures, embracing tigers as their design muse for Chinese New Year collections this year. Here are some luxury brands that have churned out collections for CNY.

Since creative director Alessandro Michele joined the fashion house, the tiger has been a mainstay for Gucci. This year, the brand introduced it ‘Gucci Tiger’ collection with the fierce animal feature across ready-to-wear pieces and accessories set against a reinterpretation of the house’s 1960s archival floral prints by Vittorio Accornero.

For this luxury brand, its Chinese New Year collection boasts floral, geometric patterns and signature silhouettes. It dodges the tiger graphics and orange-black colourways, and goes bold with the festive season’s red, as well as black. But for Prada, it’s not only about the clothes. The brand released a campaign called ‘Action in the Year of the Tiger’ to raise awareness for endangered tigers. The campaign features Li Yifeng and Chun Xia, actors from China.

The French Maison welcomes the Lunar New Year with a whimsical ‘Precious Tiger’ capsule collection where tiger motifs appear on a range of textiles, jewellery, accessories and even luxury homewares. One item in the collection worth highlighting is the Precious Tiger Square which is a scarf made from 100 per cent silk and features the tiger resting on the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk, surrounded by jungle leaves.

To usher in the Year of the Tiger, Dior worked with painted Kenny Scharf to create the feline in a cartoonish form. The tiger motifs are printed on shirts, embroidered onto knitwear and even on the signature Dior Saddle bag, all dominated by white and blue colourways.
