KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysia United Democratic Alliance (Muda) will announce its candidate next week prior to nomination day on Feb 26 for the Johor state election, said its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Syed Saddiq however said the candidates will be named one by one as nomination day for the state polls grew closer.

The Muar MP also stressed that all candidates are of calibre, competent and embodies the party’s principles of providing the best service and policies for the people.

“We will announce the list of candidates one by one as the dates for the nomination grew nearer and nearer.

“What I can say at this time that they these candidates are competent, will focus on providing the best service to the people and will focus on matters of policies,’’ he said at a press conference after the Muda party’s launch at the Connexion Conference and Event Centre here last night.

When pressed further on the list of candidates, Syed Saddiq simply revealed the first candidate would be a woman.

Speculation has been rife that entrepreneur Datin Dian Lee Cheng Ling, who openly announced her membership in Muda last month, would stand as a candidate in the coming Johor state election.

When repeated pressed by the media on Muda seat negotiations with PKR, Syed Saddiq said negotiations are still ongoing with PKR and he is not at liberty to discuss the details openly.

Previously, Muda had reached agreement with Amanah and the DAP for the party to contest six Pakatan Harapan (PH) seats, namely in Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja, Machap, Puteri Wangsa and Bukit Permai.
