Squid Game makes history with three wins at SAG Awards

LOS ANGELES - One of Netflix’s most popular series Squid Game racked up a total of three awards at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards 2022.

Not only did they sweep three categories, the show history by becoming the first non-English language series and first Korean title to win SAG Awards.

Squid Game scored a trophy for Outstanding Action Performance as a Stunt Ensemble, then Lee Jung-Jae who played Seong Gi-Hun or Player 456, took home Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, beating fellow nominees such as Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Jeremey Strong and Billy Crudup.

In his acceptance speech he thanked the Squid Game crew as well as the global audience for the love they’ve shown for the series.

Actress Jung Ho-yeon topped it off, taking home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

Jung was visibly overwhelmed with emotions and was moved to tears during her acceptance speech.

“I have sat many times watching you on the big screen, dreaming of one day becoming an actor. I just want to say thank you so much.”

Jung, who played Kang Sae-byeok, Player 067 was up against Hollywood juggernauts like Jennifer Anniston, Reese Witherspoon, as well as Elisabeth Moss and Sarah Snook.

In total, the series earned four nominations but the fourth award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series went to Succession.

Squid Game premiered last September but quickly became a global hit with its riveting premise and themes about income inequality and survival.
