KUALA LUMPUR - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad has expressed concern over a clip containing “steamy scenes” uploaded by popular actor Zul Ariffin from his upcoming drama titled 'Perempuan Itu’.

While not referring directly to the teaser, Idris in a Facebook post today said he felt the need to offer advice, especially when the show was slated to be released during Ramadhan, a spiritual month for Muslims.

He said Islam does not prohibit entertainment, but there is a strict sense of discipline especially when it involves immoral scenes.

“I am not trying to stop the entertainment industry in Malaysia, but if it tarnishes the image of the religion, I could not let it happen without offering advice,” he wrote.

He added that he would get in touch with those involved to seek advice so that the matter could be prevented.

Idris also called on all Muslims to prepare for the upcoming Ramadhan.

The clip which sparked controversy and went viral on social media has drawn the ire of netizens who described it as “disgusting” and “too steamy”.

Some were even calling for Erma Fatima, the director of the drama, to be ‘cancelled’.
