SHAH ALAM – No plea bargains were in the works for former fugitive businessman Nicky Liow Soon Hee, who turned himself in on Monday after being on the run for over a year.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Kamarudin Md Din said investigations were being carried out transparently in accordance with the law.

“Police have never made any plea bargains with any parties in this case.

“The probe was carried out in accordance with the law and did not favour the interest of any party,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added that the instructions to haul Liow to court came from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Kamarudin said the investigation on Liow, 34, over his involvement in organised crime and cases under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) began on March 15, last year.

Since then, he said 68 raids were carried out around Selangor in the police's efforts to detain Liow and his gang members.

He said although 116 individuals were detained in the raids, Liow managed to escape.
