Penang Maqis seizes frozen buffalo meat products worth RM262,079.63

BUTTERWORTH - The Penang Department of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) seized 2,516 boxes of frozen buffalo meat products from India for inaccurate and misleading information last Saturday.

Its director, Muhammad Ikram Abd Talib, said the products, estimated at RM262,079.63, were seized following an inspection of a container at the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT).

"The consignment of frozen buffalo parts also consists of 1,000 kilogrammes (kg) of hock tendon, tail (2,988 kg), liver (6,000kg) and 17,000 kg heart.

"All the products will be detained for further action because of inaccurate and misleading information. The case is being investigated under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728),” he said in a statement today.

He also said Maqis will continue to conduct regular inspection of agricultural products at every entry points to ensure plants, animals, carcasses, fish, agricultural products and micro-organisms imported into the country is free from pests, diseases and contaminants, as well as complying with the conditions and regulations set by the government. - BERNAMA
