GE15: Umno to field Ismail Sabri as its PM candidate

SHAH ALAM - The Umno Supreme Council has unanimously agreed for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to be the Prime Minister candidate ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the decision was made during the Supreme Council meeting chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Umno office.

Ahmad said the meeting was also held to decide on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the government and Pakatan Harapan (PH) which would not be extended after it expires on July 31.

"The tabling of the anti-party hopping law must proceed and supported without giving in to any parties that tries to make it fail what more change or manipulate it into something else.

"Umno's stance is that the Act must be immediately realised as a manifestation to ensure that the rights of voters are always protected and respected," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Ahmad added that in implementing the decision of the motion which was unanimously made in the party's 2021 general assembly, Umno will hold a special general assembly on May 14, to amend the party's Constitution on the period of selection of party.
