TVET infra needs improvement, says Rawang Assemblyman

SHAH ALAM – Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat urged the government to provide more training courses and facilities for the youth to spark their interest in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) industry and education.
Wei said if compared to other countries, the latter had better infrastructure and facilities in schools and universities but this was not the case in Malaysia.
“In my constituency in Rawang, students faced substandard facilities and are uncomfortable with the location where they will be trained,” he said.
Wei believed that the Malaysian government should also focus on a well-trained labour force instead of an untrained labour force.
For instance, he said that the Malaysian industries are more inclined to hire Indonesian or other foreign labour forces, leading to competition with local skilled labour force.
Meanwhile, Wei also believed that improving TVET industry in the country should go hand in hand with the implementation of minimum wage.
“The government’s plan towards the minimum wage issue should have an organised schedule and the RM1,800 minimum wage should have been implemented five years ago.
“The current wage of RM1,500 is not enough for Malaysians to survive the high cost of living,” he said.
