Wet markets extend operation hours tonight for Aidilfitri prep

SHAH ALAM - Several wet markets in Selangor extends its operation hours following the sudden announcement of Hari Raya Aidilfitri tomorrow.

Amidst the excitement and confusion that Aidilfitri came one day earlier than expected, some have not even begun preparing dishes for the festive season yet.

Hence, several wet market sellers were seen extending their business’ operation hours to cater to the last-minute demands of their customers.

A Facebook user Hariyati Ariffin posted on Shah Alam's residential Facebook group saying that Section 16 wet market here would be open for 24 hours to cater to customers’ demands.

“Section 16 wet market is open now for those who want to get their Raya needs.

“It is open for 24 hours, let’s go there and support the sellers,” she posted.

A check on Section 6 wet market showed that it was also open for business from 10pm to early morning.

“Sellers have opened their stalls and customers started to come in. Let your neighbours know (that the market is open).

“Together we stay calm in celebrating this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” a representative posted on the market’s Facebook page.

Customers lauded the move to extend the wet market’s operation hours, especially since groceries and hypermarkets were out of chicken and beef meats following the announcement that Aidilfitri falls on Monday.

With the extension of operating hours at the wet market, customers who have yet to shop for Raya preparations could stock up and sellers could finish up their stocks that were meant to be sold tomorrow.

Earlier, Keeper of the Kings' Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced that Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Aidilfitri on Monday.

The announcement set the Muslim community in Malaysia abuzz with confusion and excitement since it came a day earlier.
