NEW DELHI - A crippling fuel shortage may force 80 percent of private buses in Sri Lanka off the road from Tuesday, a transport association said.

Buses are finding it difficult to get diesel even though Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has resumed fuel distribution from Monday in the administrative region that includes Colombo, according to a Daily Mirror online report that cited Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association secretary, Anjana Priyanjith.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in a tweet that adequate fuel supplies will be available soon as three ships carrying fuel are scheduled to reach Sri Lanka in the next two weeks under an Indian credit line.

Sri Lanka is facing an unprecedented financial crisis, leading to a shortage of energy, medicine and other essential goods.
