SHAH ALAM - The resignation of Kalabakan branch chief candidate along with 11 Kalabakan branch committee members is concerning, says PKR’s party election committee chief.

Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the election committee was ready to discuss with any members in the party’s branches and they are open to constructive criticism.

“The committee’s complaints panel is currently in the process of scrutinising the complaints received through official channels and proposed actions that should be taken.

“We remind all members that all forms of complaints must be made formally and through the right channels,” she said through a media statement today.

Dr Zaliha also said the party would take strict action if any actions were made outside of the official channels, such as demonstrations or the like.

The statement came after the Kalabakan branch chief and 11 other branch members who won uncontested in the recent PKR polls resigned yesterday, citing a weak nomination and management systems.

PKR Kalabakan branch chief Shahrul Zakaria said they were unsatisfied with the flawed election system and described the committee management in the branch as ‘weak’.

“The committee is seen as failing to carry out the election process with justice and they were not being firm throughout the election.

“The branch committees, who won uncontested, unanimously objected to the results issued by the election committee,” Shahrul said in a joint statement with 11 other Kalabakan committee members yesterday.

With the resignations, the quorum for PKR Kalabakan branch was numbered at less than seven members, which meant that they would not be able to conduct official meetings or send representatives to the party’s congress.

The other committee members who resigned were Mohd Sariff Yunnus, Abdul Aziz Juman, Azis Ibrahim, Basari Badurahim, Mazlan Adnan, Abdul Malik Kadir, Samsudin Husin, Noraini Damit, Suwaib Bin Toe, Alohi Indeh and Jamiruddin Kassim.
