KUALA LUMPUR - The Road Transport Department (RTD)’s yearly collection, which reaches up to RM450 million should be used to improve the agency’s facilities for the convenience of the people.

Segambut Member of Parliament Hannah Yeoh said the department should open up more counters and branches around Klang Valley to accommodate the rising number of customers.

She said the RTD branches in Kuala Lumpur and several other locations in Selangor were packed with people who had to join the long queue and it took hours to settle their business.

“I urge the profits to be used to add their facilities. At the moment, there are only four RTD branches in Kuala Lumpur – Wangsa Maju, Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Bandar Menjalara and mini office at UTC Kuala Lumpur in Pudu Sentral while there are seven branches in Selangor.

“The number of the branches is not enough to serve the Klang Valley population. I had visited Bandar Menjalara branch in Segambut and saw the waiting line was too long up until the back alley of the building,” she said in a statement yesterday.

She also requested Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong to improve the RTD’s system and use the latest technology to boost the department’s efficiency.

“This is to ensure that all online services run effectively and as a whole.

“Among the problems that interrupt the services include National Security Printing was disconnected, system down cause by unstable internet connection,” she said.

Yeoh explained the problems led the people to be stuck in a long queue to wait for their turn to be served.

“Ensure that enough manpower and office equipment are channelled to the RTD branches in Klang Valley immediately, especially at the Menjalara branch which is located under the Segambut parliamentary,” she said.
