SHAH ALAM - The special select committee on the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill (No.3) 2022 and the provision involving Prohibition of Members of Dewan Rakyat from Changing Parties has suggested to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to call for a special Parliament sitting on the first week of July.

The committee's chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this was in line with the Rules of the House of Representatives.

"The (select committee) meeting has agreed to finalise the draft for the Anti-Party Hopping Bill to be tabled and debated in the Dewan Rakyat.

"In this regard, five fundamental issues have been raised by the cabinet during the meeting on Jun 1 and have been answered by the Parliamentary Special Select Committee," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Commenting further, he said the Parliamentary Select Committee's feedback on the matter will be brought to the next cabinet meeting as a cabinet note.

Wan Junaidi who is also the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) said the final meeting will be held soon to confirm the Parliamentary Special Select Committee Statement.

In general, he said the Parliamentary Special Select Committee had succeeded in implementing the terms of reference as per the motion approved on April 11.

"This shows commitment by all committee members and support of the Parliament, the Legal Affairs Division, the Prime Minister's Department and the Attorney General's Chambers." he said.
