SHAH ALAM - PKR Advisory Council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail highlights the issue concerning food security and climate change in the country in her opening speech at the party’s 16th National Congress at Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam (IDCC), today.

She said it is not appropriate to talk about sovereignty without discussing the community’s role and Malaysia’s ability to ensure food sovereignty in the future.

“On that basis, I suggested that community gardens must be given support and stronger policy empowerment in the effort to guarantee food sovereignty for the country,” she said at the congress.

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah said climate change was a huge commitment, especially to strengthen the country’s policy.

“Are we willing to see the impact of this climate change in a shockproof context, community supplies especially fund supplies and the enhancement of national facilities in facing a huge flood, prolonged droughts as well as the unpredictable storm?

“What about the psychosocial effects that have taken a toll on the emotion due to the loss of life, property, and shelter? For me, every scope of social protection of the people must be given attention,” she said.

Wan Azizah also urged Wanita to take a proactive stance in solving the problem of the people in the country as well as keep on being the ‘problem solver’ by implementing devotional service programmes to the society.

“The existence of Wanita should always be seen and the impact should be felt by everyone especially when we are currently dealing with political fatigue among the people,” she added.
