RELATABLE: Abortion in Malaysia

Abortion has long been taboo in Malaysia, and even though it is legal, there are incredibly tight regulations for it.

Health Ministry tracked 41,083 unplanned teen pregnancies between 2017 and 2022, of which 14,561 cases or 35 per cent were out of wedlock.

What are the short-term and long-terms of undesired pregnancies on women and girls? What happens if she is a victim of abuse, be it rape or incest? In this episode of Relatable, we discuss the topic of abortion in Malaysia, moderated by Izza Izelan.

The panelist includes obstetrician and gynaecologist and educator Datuk Dr Harlina Halizah Siraj, For Youth Initiative Kuala Lumpur Reproductive Rights Activist Fara Rom and Ectopic Pregnancy Survivor Maisara Mohd Nasir.
