SHAH ALAM - PKR strategic communications director Fahmi Fadzil has criticised Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement denying his involvement in the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) issue.

The Lembah Pantai MP said Zahid did not want to be linked to the LCS scandal, but the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report revealed that the Letter of Intent (LOI) of the LCS project was given on Oct 15, 2010 and the Letter of Award (LOA) was given on Dec 16, 2011.

"Zahid was the defence minister from April 10, 2009 to May 15, 2013. This means that when the LOI and LOA for the LCS were issued, he was still the defence minister and should have been aware of the matter.

"The delay problem is related to the entire procurement process.

“The former navy commander sent 10 letters of reprimand but all the key leaders including Zahid, Najib (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) and Hisham (Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein) ignored it," he said in a Facebook post on Monday.

Previously, it was reported that the former deputy prime minister said it was unreasonable to pinpoint the LCS procurement failure on him.

Zahid claimed the he was not the defence minister when the project was given and instead had held the portfolio between April 2009 and May 2013.

Fahmi also questioned Zahid's action not wanting to take responsibility over the issue.
