SHAH ALAM - Nominations for the Sinar Bestari S.M.A.R.T School Awards (ASSSB) which offers cash prizes amounting to almost RM50,000 has ended on Aug 16.

The event received encouraging responses from schools from all over the country.

Many schools have submitted their entries and they all fulfilled the terms and conditions set by the organiser.

ASSSB programme director Meen Tahrin said they were excited with the response received as it was the first competition of its kind to be held.

"When the closing dates were nearing, we received more entry forms.

"We are excited with the responses from the schools on the competition," he said.

He added that the assessment process for the ASSSB candidates was ongoing at the moment.

A total of six judging panels from various backgrounds in education have been working hard in giving marks to choose the best school from each category. "InsyaAllah the decision would be out soon. The announcement will be made on Oct 5 in a ceremony which will be held at the Shah Alam Concorde Hotel.

"Congratulations to all schools that have sent their entries because the slides and videos submitted were excellent. Well done," he said. Meanwhile Meen said the criteria for the ASSSB marking was based on the S.M.A.R.T school characteristics.

"The S.M.A.R.T school characteristics includes the skill of the management and development of the school, the proficiency of teachers in passing knowledge to students, attributes of students, relevant projects or programmes carried out by the school which are suitable for the 21st century education and the usage of technology throughout the pandemic," he said.

ASSSB is an award that was introduced for the first time this year to give recognition to schools that possess the S.M.A.R.T characteristics.

The award was to support the Education Ministry's wish to achieve the National Education Philosophy.

It was also to support the school management to always be competitive in the development of schools and to become the best and to support the teachers so that they would be able to consistently provide creative and innovative ideas in the teaching and learning process.

There were two categories in the competition which were for primary and secondary schools and the schools registered needed to complete a form as well as prepare a presentation in a form of slides.

The nomination of two best teachers and three best students to be evaluated were also needed in each participation.
