KUALA LUMPUR - Former deputy prime minister Tun Musa Hitam gives friendly advice to Umno to prioritise the people in the country instead of its own party agenda.

He said Umno members should lower their self-interest which was at the top of the shelf in aiming for crucial positions in the country.

“I hope (InsyaAllah) that the self-interest that seems to be at the top should be lowered down and change into the interest of the society in our beloved country,” he told reporters when met after the launch of Dyslexia Malaysia Association’s Malaysia Day Celebration today.

Commenting further, he said what was more important was that everybody should be given a chance to express their views before being selected for further process of elections as well as keeping the vote a secret.

“Let’s vote in secret and we should be able to make it and pull through the ups and downs,” he said.

Musa, who was Umno's former vice-president further said that the democratic process in Malaysia had evolved over the years as it started with one political party and the country was now filled with various backgrounds of political parties.

“As we go along, the democratic system gives anybody the chance to form a political party.

“The more democratic you are, the more freedom will be given,” he added.
