SHAH ALAM - Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has questioned the opposition for instigating the public not to have elections during the monsoon season.

Zahid said even former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had year-end elections and no one made an issue out of it.

"They forgot their most recent former prime minister had elections in November 1999, Sarawak state elections was held on Dec 18, 2021 and no one made an issue out of it," he said in a statement.

The Bagan Datuk MP further said the opposition may be afraid to lose after failing to fulfil their election manifesto.

"They need time to convince the people not to vote for BN," he added.

On Saturday, Zahid said his party was willing to tread through floods to carry out election campaign if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolves Parliament during the monsoon season end of the year.

This saw the opposition reacting as they said the focus should be on people's welfare and not elections during the monsoon.

He said the opposition should not be given additional time to fish for votes.
